The PAGE Management Board has decided to formally include Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China, in PAGE.
As the second largest economy in the world, China has not only positioned itself as an emerging economic power, the country is also gradually shifting its development focus toward sustainability. Ecological Civilization, which is the Chinese concept for a sustainable development framework, has received unprecedented attention from high-level leadership in China at both central and local levels, and is also gaining recognition internationally.
To tackle various development challenges faced by China, the Government expressed its interest and is committed to work with PAGE starting at the provincial level in Jiangsu.
Located on the eastern coast of China, Jiangsu province is home to around 80 million people and is one of the most technologically advanced provinces in the country. Situated in the Yangtze Delta, where a dense network of rivers, lakes and waterways exists, Jiangsu has a strong natural resource base. With a total GDP of 6,508.8 billion yuan in 2014, it ranks as the second richest and the most developed province of China with an HDI of 0.748 in 2010, ranking fourth in China. To maintain its competitiveness and achieve inclusive development for its citizens, the province has committed to green its economy.
China becomes the 8th country to join the Partnership for Action on Green Economy following Mongolia, Peru, Ghana, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mauritius, and South Africa.
