PAGE Thailand and Thailand United Nations Country Team (UNCT) presented PAGE workplan on climate actions, including the Carbon Emission Trading Scheme development. They met in 26  January with the President of National Assembly Mr. Chuan Leekpai and the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives on Monetary, Finance and Financial Institution and Capital Market. The discussions brought up the importance of green finance policies to drive faster green economic growth contributing to SDGs, NDCs, other international commitments and Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green economic model achievements.

 

UN Thailand Meeting with National Assembly

 

The Standing Committee of the House of Representatives on Monetary, Finance and Financial Institution and Capital Market has the duty to consider bills, study matters concerning the implementation of policies on laws, and administration of monetary, finance, and financial institutions including banking and capital markets. The recommendations of the Standing Committee are subject to final approval of the House of Representatives.

The meeting invited UN country team to share information and activities related to carbon neutrality and net zero carbon emission in Thailand for consideration of policy, regulation, recommendations to government.

The UN country presented information in the meeting includes UNRCO, UNEP, UNFCCC, UNDP, UNIDO, PAGE, and UNICEF.

Thailand joined PAGE in 2019. The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) is the Government focal point for PAGE. UNIDO acts as the main coordinating agency for the PAGE project in Thailand.

PAGE is a joint initiative of UNIDO, ILO, UNEP, UNDP and UNITAR that supports 22 countries in shaping inclusive and green economy policy and practice.
