GREEN ECONOMY & COVID-19 RECOVERY: PAGE AT HLPF 2020
Leaders from United Nations agencies and National Ministries joined the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) to call for renewed commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals in these critical times, advocating for a green economic recovery as a vehicle to accelerate action, by creating jobs, strengthening livelihoods and building resilience to future shocks during the High-Level Political Forum on 13 July 2020.
PAGE partner countries and agencies cited specific ways in which Building Back Better can be possible, such as investing in circular economy measures in Uruguay and “sustainable energy development, sustainable land restoration, risk management, and green industry" in Indonesia. UNIDO’s Director-General LI Yong called for sustainable consumption and production to be at the forefront for new, green jobs: "We must rethink the way we produce and consume and ensure that economic growth leads to green jobs, fair international trade and protects natural resources while leaving no one behind."
