Macroeconomic insights generated for Brazil’s green transition

Brazil strengthened its Ecological Transformation Plan (ETP) with new macroeconomic evidence demonstrating its potential to drive greener and more inclusive growth. The Ministry of Finance and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro completed the first phase of a PAGE-supported modelling exercise showing that ETP could raise GDP by 0.8 per cent by 2035, create two million jobs, increase per capita income by over 4 per cent, and reduce emissions to near net-zero by 2050, while safeguarding income equality and habitat quality. The findings informed next steps to expand the model to inform macroeconomic planning and sectoral strategies, including the National Bioeconomy Plan.
