Country Updates (October 2020)

Argentina: Together with Global Compact, PAGE hosted a webinar on 9 September for 190 enterprises on circular economy, presenting the recently launched Global Compacts Circular Economy Strategy  and its contribution to progress towards the SDGs in Argentina.  

PAGE is also supporting the Global Compact Contest for Enterprises on Circular Economy Projects , calling on companies to present business cases that constitute good practices in the integration of the circular economy into their respective operations and supply chains. 

Mato Grosso, Brazil: The Government of Mato Grosso officially launched the PAGE-supported Assessment of Economic and Technical Potential of Use and Generation of Renewable Energy and the Strategic Plan for the Development of Renewable Energy On 30 September,  which fed the development of the Strategic Plan for the Development of Renewable Energy in Mato Grosso, a long-term strategy for the promotion of new business models and energy technologies.

Kazakhstan: PAGE is supporting work on Kazakhstan's national waste policy development - through modeling scenarios in the waste sector, part of its assistance in the development of the Low-Carbon Development Strategy until 2050. This work has been recently been recognized within an article on plastic pollution and recycling in Kazakhstan.

India: UNEP published an article  highlighting PAGE's contribution to Indian Railway's efforts to improve energy efficiency and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030 through a capacity building program for its management and staff on sustainability and green economy. 

Senegal: Supported by UNEP outside of PAGE, the Directorate of Environment and Classified Establishments organized a two-day training workshop on 27-28 August, featuring presentations from PAGE Senegal National Coordinator Seynabou Diouf on green economy and case studies from Senegal, as well as a presentation of the PAGE programme in relation to the National Policy on Green Economy.
