Country Updates (January 2020)

Burkina FasoCapacity building on environmental fiscal reforms was organised in December in Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso. The training built on the study on environmental fiscal reform carried out by PAGE in 2017, which is being reviewed and updated with funding from LuxDev this year.

MauritiusAGE supported capacity building of trainers and enterprises on clean production and responsible practices, with a focus on SMEs. This training was in collaboration with the National Clean Production Centre.

GuyanaPAGE, through ILO, contributed to capacity of Guyana Bureau of Statistics and the University of Guyana on social accounting matrixes, which can be used for the green jobs assessment model (GJAM). The training was hands-on and focused on data collection, and the need for the GJAM model across environmental and social sectors.

At the COP25 conference in Madrid, the Government of Guyana urged the international community to support countries in their quest to pursue low carbon developments and reduce carbon emissions. The example was cited by the Green State Development Strategy, tying in with Guyana's 20 year national development plans, which focuses on green economies and low carbon trajectories.

UruguayTo advance circular economies, the PAGE Uruguay Programme —under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining — organised a series of capacity building events in several cities across Uruguay.

The National Coordinator of PAGE Uruguay presented new programme activities in the Municipality of Montevideo. The programme is related to the recovery of materials at the Environmental Expo held in December.

IndonesiaPAGE and the Government of Indonesia, through the Ministry of National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), released the “Preliminary Draft of the National Medium-term Development Plan 2020-2024”
