PAGE Celebrates Launch of Annual Report with Partner Event

Stronger Together

In an unprecedented year, PAGE embraced — and strengthened — its ties as a partnership, proving that collaborative efforts can take us farther. Gathering PAGE Funding Partners, Partner Country government focal points, collaborating partners, UN Agencies, PAGE National Coordinators and UN Resident Coordinators and Economists, PAGE held a celebratory event on 18 February to launch its 2020 Annual Report, highlighting the Partnership's continued efforts to support countries in building Inclusive Green Economies and working together to achieve the 2030 Agenda.

The informal, family-style affair welcomed more than 80 participants, with interjections from around 20 guests reflecting on the collective efforts of PAGE in 2020 as well as hopes for the coming year — particularly surrounding the mission in supporting green and inclusive economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Below are a few key highlights.

"The GIZ Team is very happy to have been able to accompany the progress of PAGE since its beginning, to see PAGE grow and bring results over the years. This slogan of PAGE, stronger together, is the key in addressing all the big challenges we are facing globally.  We often hear that periods of crisis can also be a chance, but we have to see that, and work towards that." - Dr. Detlef Schreiber, Head of Section Environmental Policy, GIZ

"I believe that the response to the pandemic through large-scale investment is providing huge opportunities at the country-level to foster cleaner, more resilient and fairer infrastructure. We can really say now that climate action is linked to social justice and PAGE plays an important role in consolidating this nexus." - Fulvia Farinelli, Economic Affairs Officer, UN Resident Coordinator Office, Argentina

"This is a unique opportunity to ensure that everybody has a stake, that everyone has a voice, and we need to pay particular attention to those that are being excluded. I hope the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is accessible to all." - Oliver Greenfield, Convenor, Green Economy Coalition

"I would like to share a Chinese Proverb heard at the Green Economy Days we organized in Senegal before the pandemic struck: 'When the wind of change blows, some people build walls, and others build windmills. Let us be amongst those that build windmills.'  My message for 2021 is one of hope: If we hope tomorrow will be better we can face the challenges of today." - Seynabou Diouf, PAGE National Coordinator, Senegal
